Harrow LC Girls take 3rd at Indian Prairie National Showdown

The Harrow LC girls lacrosse team out of West Michigan traveled to Naperville, IL to take part in the Indian Prairie Showdown.  The Showdown is a national event featuring 35 teams from 15 states, some from as far away as Arizona, Texas, and Florida.  After rolling through pool play and beating teams from Louisville, KY, Indianapolis, IN and Chicago, IL to take 1st in their pool, the girls lost a heartbreaking 8-7 triple overtime game to the Michigan Cyclones in the Semi Finals. The team then regrouped to come back strong and defeat the ZLax Lacrosse Club from Zionsville, IN in the consolation game 10-5 to capture 3rd in what is regarded as the best tournament in the Midwest.

Harrow was lead in scoring by Kati Rogers for the 3rd tournament in a row, Rogers compiled 11 goals and 4 assist to lead a very balanced attack.  Ten different girls tallied points for the team over the weekend  including Taylor Hiner, Kelsei Streeter, Andread Yoas,  Mac Yoas, Lauren McCarty, and Leesa Herzing.

Bre Stockall played solid in goal throughout the tournament posting a strong 5.60 GAA and .53 save percentage. Bre Shefferly and Sarah Koehn played strong defense in front of Stockall and ended the tournament with 6 and 4 take aways.

This closes out a very successful Summer for the Harrow LC who took home 1 Championship, 1 Runner Up and 1 3rd Place trophy.

Harrow players Sobhy and Eyre Move on in World Juniors

USA number two, Amanda Sobhy,  scored the upset of the tournament so far beating third seed Laura Gemmell to move into the round of 16 at the World Juniors.  Watch the end of the match below:

Gemmell, Canada’s number one player, was a pre-tournament favorite but the 16 year-old Sobhy took a late lead in the fourth and never looked back.  Sobhy came out strong and took a two game lead only to see Gemmell fight back from a 6-3 deficit in the third to win a tight 11/9 game.  However, Sobhy played a strong fourth and built another lead that proved to be insurmountable.  “That’s probably my best win so far, certainly the best in Juniors!” excaimed an excited, and exhausted, Sobhy after the match.

Both Team USA and Team Harrow had a strong morning at the tournament as another American Harrow Player, Libby Eyre, also scored an upset win of her own over Kimberely Hay of England.  Eyre will join Sobhy in the final 16.
